Fran Powers served as the primary singer and songwriter for the band Box of Crayons. Along with close friend Brian Dillon, they were an acoustic act that originated in the early 1990s. Over time, the group evolved into a full-fledged band with punk influences, as well as distinctive Irish and reggae elements.
In 2021, Fran Powers sadly passed away, leaving behind a legacy of music that touched the hearts of many. His wife, Shoei, reached out to his close friends and the bands he had collaborated with throughout his career. She asked them to come together and record some of Fran's songs, with the intention of creating a memorial compilation CD that would pay tribute to his talent and the enduring impact of his music.
Tom Roberto engineered and recorded several memorable sessions for Box of Crayons, capturing their raw energy and unique musicality. The Good Yeggs have an additional connection with Box of Crayons, having shared the stage in numerous gigs across New York City. Now, as part of this heartfelt project, The Good Yeggs are proud to contribute their talents to the memorial compilation CD and to be performing at the CD release party at Gjoa Club.
